i-Cybie Batteries

i-Cybie's usually come with NiCd or NiMH batteries that use a special 3 pin Male Tamiya connector (ELR-03V). Red wire (in the square slot) - 12V Yellow wire (middle) - 6V Black wire (circular slot) - Ground Originally, i-Cybies from 2001 came with an 800mAh NiCd battery (mAh = miliampere hour), and later versions came with NiMH batteries, such as the Outrageous release having 1200mAh, and 1400mAh for Silverlit & Buy-Cybie sold accessories. Both types of batteries work on all i-Cybies.

Charger

i-Cybies from 2001 usually come with an AC to DC power supply with a current of 300mA (0.3A), no full battery capacity detection switch, just direct current, quite old technology these days. Later i-Cybies come with a NiMH compatible smart charger, or a charging "timer". There are also some aftermarket chargers that use 500 or 600mA of current, and have smart detections of when the battery is full to cut off the power feed to the battery while charging, so it won't lead to your battery being damaged. These chargers connectors use a Female Tamiya connector as the battery, except that the 6V wired pin is not present.

Charging the batteries

BEFORE YOU CONSIDER CHARGING:

If you have a NiCd battery, it's best recommended to use a NiCd charger. You can use a NiMH charger, just be aware that the charging parameters may be different, unless if your charger says it supports both types of batteries, that should work the greatest. If you have a NiMH battery, it's best recommended to use a NiMH charger. You shouldn't use a NiCd charger on NiMH batteries, as it would lead to damage to the battery or the charger. If you have a NiCd battery and an original 2001 charger, simply plug the battery into the charger, and set a timer. If you're charging the battery after a while of not being in use, 3 to 3 1/2 hours should be good. Do NOT listen to the manual, saying to charge the battery for 6-10 hours, that is going to overcharge it! If you are going to charge the battery after your i-Cybie goes into the charging position, 45 minutes to an hour and a half should be good enough. If you have a NiMH battery and an NiMH compatible smart charger with the specified connector, you can plug the battery in and charge it, until it detects when the battery is fully charged, by using some sort of indication.

i-Cybies have more charging accesories, including a walk-up charger. If you would like to know more about these, go to these forum posts here for more documented information.

If you don't have a charger but you do have a battery, like to mess around with electronic parts, and can't find an i-Cybie charger online to buy at the moment, then this may be the post for you
